Seaside town on the North Norfolk coast, Cromer is famous for its crab fishing and picturesque coastline. The approach by car on the A140 from Norwich gives a great view over the town and the sea beyond. Good beaches, a pier, cliff side gardens and historic town centre make for an excellent day trip. ![]() Great Yarmouth
Much of the land around Great Yarmouth was reclaimed from the sea through the use of windmills to drain the land. Windmills have returned to Yarmouth with an offshore wind farm providing alternative energy. Yarmouth is reknowned for its amusements and active sea front with numerous activities for the children such as the Pleasure Beach, Sea Life Centre and Marina, together with good sandy beaches, a pier and plenty of parking. The Norfolk Broads extend over much of this region with boat trips leaving Wroxham and surrounding areas. ![]() Norwich
Norwich is East Anglia's capital city with stunning Cathedral, Churches, Castle and Ancient City Walls. A great place for shopping, Norwich has numerous malls and shopping centres, together with an outdoor market and several pedestrianised shopping streets. Southwold is a popular Suffolk Coastal town, part of the Suffolk Heriage Coast and consists of long stretches of sand and shingle beaches, salt marshes and areas of woodland. A picturesque Suffolk Coastal town, Aldeburgh has one of the last small fishing fleets and fresh fish is available to buy on the beach. Ipswich has a historic waterfront which has undergone a recent renaissance. Thetford is an ancient market town and has quiet gardens, open parkland and a relaxing riverside. Diss is only a couple of miles away from Wortham and has much to entertain with the Mere and old town centre with museums and historic buildings. Ely is an historic Cathedral City in the heart of the Cambridgeshire Fens and was once an island surrounded by marshes. The city is dominated by the medieval Cathedral and also has a beautiful waterside area, with antique shops and cafes. Historic Bury St Edmunds has much to offer, the Abbey Gardens a derelict abbey with walled gardens, river and aviary, a Cathedral, award winning local museums and good shopping. The abbey was a main feature for the region and in 1214 saw the barons of England meet to swear an oath to force King John to accept the Charter of Liberties, later known as the Magna Carta. Bury is a major centre for brewing with the Greene King brewery and is the location for The Nutshell, the smallest pub in Britain. Nearby is West Stow Country Park and Anglo Saxon Village giving an insight into the way our ancestors lived. ![]() Newmarket
For centuries Newmarket has been the home of British horseracing and the sport still dominates the town today. Over 2500 acres of the surrounding countryside is devoted to racing and training horses with gallops and studs run by some of the countries top trainers. Tattersals, the largest horse auction house in Europe is based in Newmarket together with the National Horseracing Museum and the National Stud. ![]() Cambridge
Home of the world reknowned University, Cambridge is located on the river Cam and punting and boating is a daily pasttime during the summer months. Cambridge also has several Historic Houses together with shopping centres and plenty of entertainment. |
